A very underratted but crucial aspect of this hire. To go from a guy like Marshall to Prohm or some other "up and comer" would have killed a lot of buzz being generated this offseason. AJ is a name that can get the fans fired up. That's huge. The AD doesn't necessarily have to sell the hire to the Fanbase

Like I said above, the ticket sales and other revenues they make from this compared to Prohm or White will probably make up whatever difference in contracts there is from $2.5M to $2.95M (Scarbo said his deal is a hair under $3M).

They were on the edge of losing people for a long time until Prohm/White proved themselves. This hire instantly got people jacked again. He may suck and people may lose that feeling, but this hire has had the effect on Alabama people the way Pearl did on Auburn.

As I said, Bama basketball was really at an inflection point. Some underwhelming hire like Prohm/White/Pitino would just have sucked the life out of the program. Those hires were a bigger risk than CAJ. We needed the excitement and energy of a big name hire. As far as his salary goes, it's commiserate with a guy like CAJ's resume

A lot of people in this thread don't get this part of it. They are taking a very myopic and incomplete view regarding how much Alabama is paying / should be paying Johnson. It's humorous that these guys are lecturing Bill Battle, of all people, on sound financial and business transactions.
