Fair enough...if you got Marshall or someone of that ilk.

You got a broadcaster, former NBA flameout. Who were you bidding against?

Possible future bidders (like Arizona State). There are still baselines for guys like that who have had success at the highest level. You can't just walk in and say "well you are unemployed and currently don't have any deals in the works so the most we will pay you is $1.5M". If that was the case then why did Mississippi State give Howland $2M? Guy had been unemployed for 2 years. Why didn't they just offer him $1M and say take it or leave it?

Seriously I love yall calling a former NBA coach of the year a flameout. He is the fastest coach in NBA history to win 50 and 100 games.

It is the same group of people too saying crap like this. People who haven't watched a NBA game since Jordan retired, haven't seen Avery Johnson interviewed, or fail to recognize the allure of someone who knows the NBA recruiting prospective players.

Could he flame out? Sure, but some of the reasons people on this board are coming up with are just ridiculous.

Marshall turned down a King's ransom to stay in Wichita were he and his family have been for damn near a decade.

Avery Johnson fits a need in the basketball program. He has former NBA experience, he is energetic and well liked and I believe he will do a better job than Grant.

Why should I care who UA was bidding against? I a fan/alum and supporter and I'm very pleased with the hire.
