The issue really boils down to the "context" argument. The kids in this thread(whether a kid by age or by maturity level) argue that the term is fine and dandy if used in a non-disparaging context.

Link? Everyone has said in here that they're not a fan of the word. No one in here a kid. WildTchoupitoulas just kept calling people who were disagreeing with him "kid/kids" to give him a sense of seniority on the subject.

But if a white man says "my n***a really balled out tonight" in a public statement ( press conference, Twitter, FB, etc) would fall under the wrath of every SJW and PC maniac who became aware of the incident.

No argument there. I agree.

quote:

The word is filtered out of just about every social forum because it carries a very negative connotation

This is also true. If that word is said on this site, it's more than likely being used in a negative and derogatory way.

quote:

I am very sorry if some of the kids on here cannot go a day without using the term but it seems like it would be an easy habit to quit.

Again, no one on here says the word. No one in here likes the word. And please don't start with the kid shite either. Get over yourselves. Everyone in here is at least in their mid-20's and college educated.

quote:

Maybe instead of arguing for their right to use a racial slur in their daily repertoire of the English language in a "good intention" type of way.....they could exert some energy into putting an end to the word usage in their generation

Who is arguing for their right to use it? We're simply just saying that his intention wasn't racist. That's where the debate ends.

quote:

Never thought I would see the day when the older generation is arguing for the restriction of the slur while the young generation is arguing for their right to use it with "good context."

And again. No one is arguing for their right. But some of us are aware at many young black athletes drop the word like it's a cough. Why? Who knows? Like cas said, they've more than likely desensitized the word after those who came before them were subject to countless insults with that word being in the forefront.

If you truly think this is a thread about a group of young posters telling the old guys that saying n***a is cool then you're clueless. It's a thread about a group of posters who, using common sense, acknowledge that young black athletes utilize that word in their compliments AND insults regardless of the race of the person they're addressing.

Harrison came off as really butthurt and insulted Kaminsky on live tv. Want to be upset about something? Be upset over that. Not that the fact that he used a word that doesn't even logically make sense to use towards a white jewish guy.

This is the only one of your wrong statements that I'm going to fool with, but anyway, it's wrong.

Not really, I was just responding to, you know, the OP:
quote:

For all of you over the age of 35:
"frick that ****" isn't a racial slur

I am over the age of 35, therefore the thread is directed at me.

Also, I disagree with the OP. I believe it is a racial slur.

Then you came in with all of your assumptions.

And please don't start with the kid shite either. Get over yourselves. Everyone in here is at least in their mid-20's and college educated.

Looks like someone's a little testy about the 'kids' thing. Being 25 and college educated does not a man make. You'll understand that one day. But the funny part is you telling people over 35 to get over themselves in a thread directed at "all of you over the age of 35" like that is some sort of cut off for who knows and who doesn't know. So I'm just going to go ahead and assume that 35 is the cutoff for who's a kid and who's an adult. I mean, assumptions seem to be de rigueur in the thread amirite?

So you don't even care if the Jewish guy was offended by being called a n*****? You think that's irrelevant?
