Used to go when I was a teenager, when we had 2-3 in the area. They're all closed down now. I think there's still one in Southern Indiana.

Two kinds of memories: watching non-animated Disney movies with the family as a kid (Love Bug, That Darn Cat, pretty much anything with Dean Jones) and making out to slasher movies in high school. I have a particularly fond memory of a Carrie/Halloween double feature double date one Halloween night.

Southern drive-ins were stifling hot and mosquito-laden in the summer time...tough to compete with air-conditioned theaters. Steamy, swampy states like Florida and Louisiana have literally no such theaters left.

There's actually still one open in the Maryville area.
LINK It's a pretty sweet site. There's a pertty big background image though, so you might not want to click on that link if you're using AOL. Might freeze up your browser.

Me and my friends and girlfriends went to these all the time. I always enjoyed the experience.

Nothing earth-shattering. In broke HS days I took 4 to The Chief when we only had money enough for 3. One guy got in the trunk. As soon as I parked, a guard walks up behind my car and decided that was his spot. Guy in the trunk starts banging on anything he can find to be let out. We explain the situation but of course he thinks we're lying and gets louder. And in fairness, this is exactly the sort of thing we'd have pulled on a friend if we had thought about it. The guard is apparently deaf, though, and leaves after 30 minutes or so. Our 4th never did believe us.

Looks like American Pickers found out about Lithia and stole the damn sign.
I admit...the sign is pretty cool.

One in my TN hometown.
Many females in said town have enjoyed my company in said drive in theater. In high school, of course.
