hey man you could do worse with some of those other suggestions I've seen 
Did Cliff do something bad I'm not aware of? If he can get USA ranked in the top 10 and a sweet sixteen at Auburn, I'd imagine he'd do just fine at UT.
I'm not saying he should be your #1 choice but as someone said earlier, the market sucks now for basketball coaches.
FWIW, I do think UT would be dumb as hell to not at least call Pearl and see if something could be worked out. Should be their first call.

Cliff is a dinosaur. He's a good coach but he's too old. He's 70 years old and he's had major NCAA infractions at Auburn.
Gottfired is just not a good coach. He gets NBA level players somehow and then underachieves with them and goes to the NCAAT occasionally.

Lol who do you think we are Kentucky? We run this program with integrity and character dammit, can't be having such filth such as Pearl running it. That's why we hire Donnie so he could bring back morals to thi.........uhhhhh........I mean.........
ETA: in all seriousness, the admin (mainly Cheeks from what I was told) wouldn't touch Pearl last year they won't this year either
