Who cares?

UAB football was a black hole. Lost $300+ MILLION over the last several years.

Frick that.

UA Board of Trustees doesn't cause UAB fans to not go to games, or "boost" the program.

300$ million? Did you read those numbers on some random internet message board and start spouting that crap off as truth? Anyone can google the football revenue and expenses in about 4 seconds.

At most, UAB football lost roughly 25$ million over a 25 year period since it's inception. In UAB football's worst year ever in 2013 when fan support was at an all time low due to 10 years of being screwed over, UAB football reported a 2 million dollar loss (3.5 million in expenses is scholarships) before any subsidy. After student fees, the team had around a 500k to 1 million dollar loss which was the true net loss for the program in it's worst year ever.

That's what happens when you completely hamstring a program for 10-15 years:

- Coaching hire tampering multiple times in 2006/2007.
- a VALID stadium proposal not even looked at by the board in 2011.
- A self imposed death penalty threatened by the board in 2002 the day before the NFL draft...yeah thanks for the help recruiting UA board.
-Coach McGee (2012-2013) was promised many things for the program and never got ANYTHING. He tried to do fundraisers with former players and wasn't even allowed.
- 2014 - Bill Clark told he would be given turf for the practice field, donated for by a UAB donor, and that turf got nixed by the board...board members not even on the "athletic committee".

Please cite your sources where UAB football lost 300 million in a few years? I'd love to hear what facilities they built to accomplish that feat (oh wait, they only had some dental offices for coach offices and that was their 'facilities'). 300$ million implies 12 million a year LOSS for 25 years. UAB football's expenses BEFORE REVENUE wasn't even 9 million last year.

Use Equity in athletics or google UAB's football expense report next time.

UA's School of Medicine at UAB subsidizes the football program to get it even close to breaking even.

Take a look at UAB's financial filings and you'll see exactly what a black hole that program is. On a run-rate basis over the last five years, it's more like a $60 million loss which would be $300 million over 25 years before extra student fees.

ETA: Over 65% of the revenue was subsidies from the University and student fees. That's not football revenue. That's just taking money from other areas and calling it revenue.
