It has been a long-standing complaint at UAB that they alaways feel like a second class citizen to UAT. I have never met a professor or academic type who didn't think there concentartion was the most important thing and the admin. was screwing them on funding. I well understand UAB's complaints and I am on the record as syaing that UAB should be supported in the academic arena. The football team was an abortion and complete and utter waste of money that could have been spent elsewhere. Take the $100MM necessary to float a football team and pur it into academics.

Makes sense and I see your point of view. While we disagree on the athletics, I do see your points and think there is a valid debate there. What irritates me is all the people who say this all about hating on Alabama, when it is about UAB. Sadly there is no way to disentangle the two issues. In agree with you completely on the sentiment of the faculty, and the cuts to benefits has only made that feeling more pronounced.

At the end of the day, I am not sure UAB football was viable --- I have an opinion but can easily see the other side of it. What I can say, is this whole process was a giant botch job and now you have a President at the University that the faculty, alumni and students do not want and cannot remove because he has the support of a few very powerful people.

Hope you have a good day and will see you in the next UAB thread (LOL)

Thanks and same to you. It's refreshing to have a reasonable conversation about a controversial topic with a rival fan that doesn't denegrate into al.com insults.

I too agree with you on most all of your points and I want UAB to be the best it can be. With respect toyour issues on the academic side, I agree with you....Yes, I agree that funding has probably been lacking but honestly football is just not the answer. Quite frankly, its unreasobale to think otherwise given that massive juggernaut of a program that sits an hour away.

These so called fans of UAB don't care about the academics. They only want their football team back with a new stadium and a national championship winning coach.... all 7,000 or so of them. Make the taxpayers pay for them, since UAB football is losing money.

The few #freeuab crowd even attended the Bot meeting and when the Bot announced all the millions of upgrades to facilities and academics, they booed. And why? Because these few people (look at he pictures of the #freeuab crowd.... few) only care about having a football team. And they will go to great lengths, even so far as to get a state representative to propose a bill to force the state to fund one for them.

I bet auburn fans like that the bill will force the Bot to do away with the University of Alabama football team if poor little ole UAB can't have one. Come on comrade.... let's shut down Bama football, because UAB fans suck.

You are an Auburn alum/fan on here, living in PA......Why are you so interested in UAB? It seems you have a vested interest in UAB, the football program, and current president of UAB. WHY?

I live less than 5 miles from AUM campus, in east Montgomery ~ I couldn't tell the name of the AUM President if you held a gun to my head.
