I know the games here are underway but wanted to offer quick take on events developing around Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall…..

As @GaryParrishCBS reported NCAA will present its penalty on Tyndall to Tennessee on a conference call tonight….

This stems from case at Southern Miss. Tyndall clause in his contract that allows school to fire him if he commits major violation...

That includes violations at another school. If NCAA gives him major penalty (e.g. show cause) that would trigger dismissal or resignation

There's a chance that won't happen but multiple sources have told me school is bracing for a major penalty….

So there's a chance Tyndall survives but at this point that would be a surprise. Should know one way or another in next 24 hours.

We don't really know yet. Something about off campus housing, I think.

Maybe Bruce Pearl will come back if UT fires Tyndall.

Basically, USM was guiding basketball players to get student loans during school. "Friends" (read: boosters) were paying off the loans over a long period of time. They were essentially paying players and using loan services to launder the money.
Source: USA hates USM.

Honestly, at this point, I'm hoping for a quick firing. Get it over with, leave the gun, take the cannoli.

But did he know about it? Calipari would just say "I didn't know it was going on," and he avoided sanctions. If there's proof that Tyndall knew, he's done, it's over.

That is the crux of the NCAA investigation, I'm sure, or did he at least do due diligence to make try to make sure it wasn't happening.

So will there be a bidding war between Tennessee and Bama for Gregg Marshall?

My biggest fear is that they keep Tyndall but he gets pretty much neautered on the recruiting trail due to either sanctions or fear of getting that third strike and they have to fire him in a couple of years anyways because of poor results.
If it's a suspension for a few games and that's it then keep him.

Pearl has a buyout in his contract that he would have to pay Auburn 5 million dollars if he leaves.

I'm sure Tennessee would pay it and put Pearl on many restrictions and conditions.

Well, aren't you just having a hissy-fit.

Any restrictions, short of not being allowed to recruit at all, really wouldn't do much damage. They're there to be a pain in the arse but that's it.
At any rate, I'll be surprised if this turns out to be a show cause. If it is, the NCAA has some serious fricking explaining to do regarding how they deal with each coach. What Syracuse's coach did was far, far, worse and lasted over a decade and he only got a several game suspension. And there are countless others.
