I hate to admit it but you have a rational legitimate point there. The AD who is in his early to mid 70s btw is on his way out and there isn't currently a president. I'm not sure why we seem to be putting all our eggs in the Marshall and Smart bag. Those two are tough pulls given who they have turned down recently. We should have taken a chance on Howland. Having said all that, I don't see the need to rush the new hire. Make both those candidates say no and then move on to the next tier. Alabama has proven in the past that they can be a regular NCAA tournament participant without a big name coach.

I agree with you. I seriously don't know why they didn't try to get Howland, (If they didn't.). I think that would have been a great hire for UA. Marshall would be a good hire as well. I am not very impressed with Smart. To me, he seems like Grant 2.0. He gets to the tourney, but has been an early exit the last 4 years.
I don't think UA needs a big name coach to be successful. I think they have a good set up and fan base. (AU needed someone like Pearl who could totally change the culture.) The culture is there for UA. They just need a good coach to come in and be successful. I hope they get a good one. It makes the SEC and the State better to have all the major programs doing well.
