Big name coaches also usually want to know who their bosses are going to be. Alabama has an interim schol president and an 80 year old athletic director. That kind of uncertainty usually doesn't bode well for hiring big name coaches

I hate to admit it but you have a rational legitimate point there. The AD who is in his early to mid 70s btw is on his way out and there isn't currently a president. I'm not sure why we seem to be putting all our eggs in the Marshall and Smart bag. Those two are tough pulls given who they have turned down recently. We should have taken a chance on Howland. Having said all that, I don't see the need to rush the new hire. Make both those candidates say no and then move on to the next tier. Alabama has proven in the past that they can be a regular NCAA tournament participant without a big name coach.
