On a personal note, my family is very close with Jay Prosch and his family. I know it was a huge relief/blessing to him and Mrs Prosch that he was granted the hardship waiver, allowing him to transfer to Auburn. He was able to spend much more time with her during her waning days than he would have been able to had he still played for Illinois.

So it just seems cruel to prevent kids from having this option in rare occasion that it's needed.

making them sit out a year only enhances this.

It's not preventing them from transferring, they just have to sit out a year, but the NCAA can and most likely will in situations like Prosch grant an additional year of eligibility. I actually think it is a smart rule change.

Agreed. They should just really make sure the hardship is legit.
