People who generally only talk when they have legitimate information on a few Alabama message boards are talking about this as a legitimate thing as well as a lot of Indiana people. Could be total BS, but Crean's media performance last night really gave the look of a farewell performance. I assume they could go on a Sweet 16 run and everything changes, but if they get bounced on day 1 this could be interesting.

Addendum 1 : This would be a mutual agreement to leave aka a firing. Nobody is saying Crean would leave IU willingly for the Alabama job. I thought that was understood.

Thoughts?

He'd be dumb to leave at this point. He has retirement-buy-an-island money left as a buyout. It would still be a couple million next year.

I don't think the timing is right for him to leave.

No one cares about Alabama basketball. Including Alabamanians. Take this to the Bama board.

He's not leaving, and they aren't going to fire him this year. So no.

Would Crean to Alabama make you cream for Alabama?

You don't want Crean. If he can't get it done somewhere like Indiana (and it's clear he's been riding on Dwyane Wade's coattails long enough) then he isn't going to get it done at Alabama.

I'd go Ben Howland before I'd go Crean. Otherwise throw the kitchen sink at an Archie Miller type.

If I was Alabama, I would definitely hire Ben Jacobson. He has never had a losing season and has been to the NCAA tourney 3 times. He has had Northern Iowa ranked in the top 20 all year this year after leading them to a 30-3 record. He would be the best choice of the mid major coaches, assuming that Shaka Smart and Gregg Marshall won't leave for Alabama.

I'll be ecstatic with Cream as head coach as long as he brings Dwyane Wade along with him.

His star has fallen awfully far since going to Bloomington. At this point, it doesn't make sense to have fired Gottfried. He is now working on his fourth consecutive tournament appearance. Crean has missed one of the last two.

Dear Bama,

Please don't bring this loser to the SEC. He can recruit okay but he has been out coached by every other Big X coach. He will add nothing to Bama and SEC basketball.

I'd rather Crean to Bama than Howland.

With that said, I always wanted Crean at LSU while he was at Marquette. I think he'd be a good, not great hire for Bama. an upgrade from Grant nonetheless
