Hey guys, going to Durham to watch States women play. Will be staying Thursday-Sunday regardless of how the games turn out.

What are some places we should eat at? Anything that we should see?

Will have a full day Saturday. Right now, were thinking of making the four hour trip to DC, but nothing final.

Edit: Will get to Durham about 1 Thursday. Will be leaving either after States game Sunday, or the earliest flight out Sunday

Edit #2: Have where we're eating planned out. Looking for things to do to fill in the day. Can be within a 1-2 radius of Durham

Thanks for the input!

Duke Univ (host), UNC and NC State are all within 15-20 miles of each other and Chapel Hill is very close, about 15 min drive. Durham has lots of trendy college bars, restaurants and the Durham Bulls baseball park is downtown. There's more to do in Raleigh, but it's a great place to live, but it's not a tourist area. Triangle traffic is pretty bad especially on the I-40 inner loop.

Dukes campus is really nice.

Eat at the Bull Durham in the Washington Inn on campus. Good Filet. Hope you are staying at Washington Inn. That's where I stay every time. There is also a hamburger place downtown that's good as well as a brew pub close by. Sorry I cannot recall the name. On Saturdays they have a walking eat/drink crawl that's cool. Several restaraunt a and pubs participate. Go see Cameron and the new practice facility behind it towards the baseball stadium. Football stadium is always open if you want to walk around. Go see the Chapel on campus it's nice. There are at least 10 basketball courts within walking distance of Cameron. If you have a bike you can bring it and ride the routes, on and off road, that are on campus. Some nice bike/run trails. Washington Inn also has a really nice golf course but I'm not sure if it's open this time of year.

-I would tell you to go to Charlie's, but it closed down. So, hit up Fullsteam Brewery one night. The tasting room is awesome and they always have a food truck outside that's usually always solid.
-If you're drunk one night, or craving some late night food, go to Cosmic Cantina. They have good burritos and it's a college staple. Hell, it's a good lunch spot, too.
-Take the time one night to eat at Satisfaction's (Sati's). Really good pizza, good bar food, plenty of beer slection.
-As mentioned before, The Bull Durham at the WaDuke is a really good restaurant. If golf is your thing, try to get a tee time at the golf course there.
-Busy Bee in Raleigh has really good Sunday brunch and excellent coffee.
-Downtown Durham used to be just an absolute dump but they've done a really good job of revitalizing it. The Tobacco Campus down there is really nice. I can never remember the names of any of the bars down there.
-If you like good french food and don't mind spending $$$, Vin Rouge is excellent.

Both the Duke and UNC campuses are gorgeous so take time to stroll around; The Duke chapel is lovely. Wally Wade is currently under renovation so, while still open, it's just a mud pit right now. If you're into jogging/hiking then the Duke Forest has tons of great trails and the gardens are very nice.

Awesome, thanks guys for the info.

We've decided to stick around Durham for the duration. Will check out both Duke and UNC's campuses. Looking forward to the trip!

Raleigh/Durham is a HUGE business destination, with a world-class airport and RTP, but it's not a tourist stop. Still, much of the area is newly developed and there are tons of bars and restaurants scattered throughout. Have fun.

Duke lacrosse party. If you are an attorney you will get your first 3 dances free in return for counsel.

If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, check out Smashburger. Went there before a Duke game not knowing anything about the place....delicious.

Thanks for the comments.

So, there isn't much to do to fill in the day? Have where we're eating pretty much planned out, looking for some things to do in between eating!

If it's still there and you like rustic steakhouses, the Angus Barn is a good place to eat. It sits just northeast of the airport off Glenwood Ave. It was a landmark restaurant when I lived there, and had a nice Western style bar upstairs where I got sick drinking cognac once.

Downtown Raleigh has a nice restaurant/bar scene called Glenwood South. It probably draws more people in the area than anything else, and not far from NC State Univ. It's about 18 mi from Durham down the I-40 Beltline.
