Question for residents of Arkansas

Do you like or dislike Wally Hall?
I for one cannot stand him. Many times his columns include inaccurate facts. If the sports editor of a major newspaper is going to present facts, at least get them right. And he name drops just to build himself up.
I know the vast majority of his readers are Arkansas fans and his column will be slanted in that direction. But it is amazing how he can jizz over a coach or player as if he is the greatest representative ever for the university. Only to tear him down later. Bobby Petrino is a good example.
But I read his column every day just to find more reasons to dislike him. I don't know why but today's column about Jim Boheim and Syracuse just rubs me the wrong way.

You're getting your daily Arkansas thread in early today.
Once upon a time back before the internet people actually read and paid attention to Wally, I personally haven't read (I have seen quotes at times) his column in probably 15 years.
Are you the same LSU fan that accused us of thinking Bo Mattingly was Jesus?

wally just makes stuff up, right after nolan was hired he was spreading a rumor that we were going to fire richardson and hire pat foster away from houston, but that houston was paying foster a million dollars per year. a fellow broker was pat fosters stock broker he called several of us into his office put foster on speaker phone and i heard him in his own words say how over the top ridiculous the story was, he didn't make close to that and of course wish that he did.
that was in the middle of the newspaper war between the gazette and the democrat.
another time i was sitting in the hot tub in the men's locker room at the LRAC wally strolls in gets into the hot tub wearing his underwear.....hand to god.
the guys own daughter won't talk to him.

can't stand his column. He's the same idiot early in Nolan's career at Ark. slammed him said his system would never work ect. When Nolan started going to final fours ect. he always remembered and never gave little Wally the time of day. Towards the end of Nolan's career little Wally was the first to go negative on Nolan. I would never read or listen to him. (he has a radio show too, I think Finebaum is his hero)

That is part of my point. He can state his opinion on matters all he wants. But do not report inaccurate facts that the casual sports fan will take as the gospel truth. Isn't that irresponsible journalism? What if columnists report inaccuracies in their news stories? Oh wait.....

the foster story is significant, the democrat ran with the story prompting nolan to storm into broyles office demanding an explanation (according to frank deford's story in sports illustrated). in turn orville henry reached out to wally telling him how irresponsible it was to report the story that had no basis in fact, to which wally replied...."if you saw the kind of numbers and money that me a john robert star were getting.....blah blah blah"
that was at the height of the newspaper war.
in fairness the democrat from that point on was cut off from having access to the program, but in reality the democrat never had access in the first place.
from broyles lip's to orville henry's ear's. if it was coming from henry you knew it was coming from frank

Wally is a joke.
He's so fricking irrelevant he has to make stuff up just to draw attention to his crappy column.
The only true journalist we've ever had in this state was Orville Henry.

I stopped reading Wally during the end of the Houston Nutt era. Sorry excuse for journalism. Don't care about his opinion. He doesn't have the "connections" he thinks he has. Very little factual information.

Is Wally still doing his thing? I lived in North Little Rock in the 90's. I remember he had a little TV show he did back then.

To say we hold Wally in low regard is an understatement. He can, when he wants too, write a good article from time to time. Usually he doesn't bother. The man is notorious for carrying grudges and using his column to attack folks.

I don't give a damn about lil Wally's opinions or his vacations.Couldn't stand his tripe in the 70's and it's just as bad now.
Thanks for the opportunity to say this...he's a prick...

That pretty well sums up the whole state's opinion of the man there.
