If players in the NBA played legitimate defense, we would not see consistent scores in the 100+ range.

In the 2013-14 season: Of the 30 teams that season... 17 averaged over 100 ppg. Of those 30 teams, 16 made the playoffs. 14 of the 16 playoff teams saw their PPG averages drop.

NBA players are very good. Very skilled and the game is more geared towards offense than the college game, but NBA teams most definitely play defense.

Pace tends to drop in the playoffs. Half of the teams in the playoffs last year increased their offensive efficiency from the regular season.
