I'm not fishing. I've blown all my lures for a while. Just want the OTB's opinions, y'all are my brain trust.

Doesn't fit into my top 5... Something about him just doesn't jive with me
For reference
1. Eminem
1. J Cole
3. Kendrick Lamar
4. Jay-Z
5. Macklemore (don't hate)

Em has fallen. Haven't loved his recent stuff.
Macklemore is awful.
BIG KRIT and Action Bronson would make my current Top 5. I'd also swap Joey Bada$$ for Hova. I like Jay, but Joey's last CD is fantastic. Drake is somewhere around 10

I haven't made my mind up on Bronson. Easy Rider was my jam for like two straight months though.

I think it's a tragedy he's stuck in a wheel chair the rest of his life and lost a promising athletic career all because somebody was bullied in HS and thought the solution was to bring a gun to school.

It depends. When he raps, he's def one of the top 3. When he goes all emotional light skin, that's when he loses me except for a couple of songs like Marvin's Room. If you can listen to Marvin's Room, and not think of a significant other, you're a bigger man than me.

He's alright... I thought josh was annoying. Kenan and kel were 1000x better

Drake started from the bottom. Now he here.
Not sure what else you need to know.

Yeah I feel like I'm the only one that gives Macklemore any respect
His lyrics are on point and (usually) have a prominent meaning with today's society
But yeah Em stays number 1 because he has everything... Krit might could be subbed for Hov...
As far as Drake, like someone else said, when he's rapping he slays... But I can't get his emotional stuff

Can you explain the appeal of Cole to me? I don't get it. The only song of his I've liked was Power Trip. Everything else of his that I've heard just seems kind of meh. What's his good stuff?

Where's his team?

I like his instrumentation. It's a nod to the old soul and R&B vibe. I prefer it. Even if the lyrics aren't as tight.

Cole is all lyrics... He take a good few times to listen to before it catches on (I wasn't a fan at first)
Crooked Smile
Villuminati
Trouble
Lights Please
Tale of Two Citiez
Can't Get Enough
Born Sinner
I'm a huge Cole fan but like with anything, the more you listen, the more you appreciate the little intricacies in his lyrics and like it more
Crooked Smile, Power Trip, and Work Out were the first songs I really got hooked on and it went from there
Haha I see me and 808 don't agree on the lyrics

His lyrics are fine. They're more personal, IMO, and relatable I think. There's vulnerability in that he seems like a real guy. Not just some rap persona. But he's not an amazing lyricist.
Crooked Smile hooked me.

That sums it up pretty well...
"I love it when you give me heaaaad,
I hate it when you give me headaches"
That's relatable AF haha

I find I relate far better to Kanye than to Cole. He speaks for me.
