How did Arkansas get so good at football by the end of last season?

Almost beat Miss. St. and destroyed LSU and Ole Miss. Won their bowl game I think. I honestly don't remember as the LSU/Ole Miss wins are all that I really remember about that team.

But, what led to the turnaround that enabled those two big wins?

Will Arkansas football continue in that trajectory and get even better this next year?

Was just thinking about the upcoming LSU-Arky basketball game and then remembered how good Arkansas was at football this past year at the end and was wondering what happened.

Because they have a really really good coaching staff. People shat all over Bret, but he assembled a staff of like minded guys who all know how to implement his way of doing things. They get the most out of their players. Really good thing going on up at AR imo.

Defense.

No, really, defense.

Our DC finally was able to put the right pieces in the puzzle. We were oh so close for a couple of games there. Honestly LSU caught us right when we put it all together.

Our defense was ridiculous in the second half of the season

They got to play 2 games at home against 2 teams that had higher aspirations for the season who had their seasons ended just the week before. They wanted both games more than LSU and Ole Miss and it showed

You forgot them taking Bama to the wire 14-13 I think

They may go 4-4 or 8-0, but make no mistake they are dangerous and will be a tough game for everybody.

Not really that impressive, Arky lost to MIZZOU late in the season and MIZZOU lost to IU so that would mean Arky sucks worse than IU, transitive property works in this example.

Bert has a massive line, stable of horses, and the defense played great at the end of the year. Arky will be scary next year

I agree with everything said. For all the talk of our running game, it was our defense that won the games. We should have a formidable defense again this year, but the loss of Flowers, Spraight and Philon is gonna hurt.

And yea, we wanted it more. The media was saying all year that we'd eventually win a SEC game by double digits and time was running out. I also think LSU and Ole Miss let the cold weather psyche them out a little, because that really shouldn't have been an issue for them.

Texas was just over-matched.

It was coming all along.
The right way to build something is not always the fastest way.

The pieces were there, but the guys hadn't quite gotten over the hump mentally until the last couple of games.
Very well could have (maybe even could argue 'should have') beaten aTm, Bama, in addition to LSU and Ole Miss. Weren't that far away from beating MSU and Missouri either.

But we didn't.

I think we will hurt a little at LB unless we see some player step up like Spaight.

Flowers is great...but I think a combo of Wise and another DE opposite which SHOULD be Ledbetter will be very good.

Hard to replace Philon but we have a talented guys in BJackson that has all the tools.

I think our backend will definitely be better than last year...which is something we haven't seen since maybe 2006.

Our O is going to have to win us some games and our run game has to get better.

I'm excited what Enos brings to the table and I think we will make better use of WRs and RBs in the pass game. That will only help the TEs and Allen.
I expect Allen to have his best season in his final year

Stout road schedule...8-4 would be a good season

LSU was deflated after losing to Bama

Arkie just wanted a W and we're the Super Bowl for them.

Their defense got to play the offenses of LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas. Those were probably the worst offenses of the non-cupcakes on their schedule. I'd say the offense probably stepped up more than the D did.
