You paid well above market value for him. Chavis is better than Steele, but he certainly isn't as good as Muschamp. It'll be interesting to see how the deal works out for both teams. If Chavis is going to make a difference I think you will see it almost immediately. His strength is not recruiting, it's scheme. If LSU's defense is going to decline with Steele, I don't think you'll see it manifest itself for a few years.

I 100% disagree.

The problem with the A&M defense isn't talent (we play below our talent level) or the offense. Heck it wasn't even scheme, Snyder had decent schemes.

The issue was attitude, and a sense of toughness. Queue that gif of us getting run over, but the fact is that our defense hasn't had an attitude in a decade.

I don't know if Chavis brings that, but I do know that if he did it won't get across in just a year. Sumlin has not fostered an environment for an elite defensive attitude to survive, so Chavis will have to find a way to build his defense within the confines of what we have.
