ESPN as most of you know is releasing their position rankings for each position in the SEC. QB, RB, WR/TE, OL and DL so far. I wanted to tabulate it out see how it is ranked at the end.

Here is how I am doing it.

First I am giving 14 points for 1st place down to 1 point for last point in their rankings. Then I am multiplying the points by 2 for QB and 1.5 of OL and DL.

I think everyone can agree those are the three most important positions in the SEC. I think RB, WR, LB and DB are all pretty equal and just left those with no extra weight.

Secondly I am doing a raknking that gives the QB position x1.5 and both OL and DL x2 for our line friendly fans.

SO FAR with ESPN giving QB, RB, WR/TE, OL, DL and LB rankings only the list looks like this with point totals. DB and ST still to come, maybe they'll even do coaching as well and if so I'll probably give that a double weight like QB.

QB Emphasized Formula total points
1 - Tennessee - 84
1 - Auburn - 84
3 - Alabama - 77
4 - Georgia - 74.5
5 - Missouri- 71.5
6 - Miss St - 70
7 - LSU - 68.5
8 - Arkansas - 63.5
9 - Texas A&M - 63
10 - Ole Miss - 48
11 - Florida - 47
12 - South Carolina - 39
13 - Kentucky - 34
14 - Vandy - 16

OL/DL Emphasized Formula total points
1 - Auburn - 89.5
2 - Alabama - 86.5
3 - Tennessee - 85.5
4 - Georgia - 85
5 - LSU- 75.5
6 - Missouri - 70
7 - Miss St - 68
7 - Arkansas - 68
9 - Texas A&M - 65
10 - Ole Miss - 55.5
11 - Florida - 51
12 - South Carolina - 45
13 - Kentucky - 31.5
14 - Vandy - 16.5

So that is what it looks like so far with DB, ST and maybe coaching to come.

I will update the OP as the new rankings come out and bump this thread.

These 2 have to be worth at least 20 points.

You double weighted QB? If you do that, I feel like you should double weight OL as well because it doesn't really matter if your QB doesn't have time to throw, or your RB space to run.

My version:

I weighted the offense roughly by NFL salaries of starters.

QB(1)- 23%
RB/FB(1)- 11%
WR/TE(4)- 28%
OL(5)- 38%

OFFENSE

#1 Auburn
#2 Texas A&M
#3 Georgia
#4 Arkansas
#5 LSU
#6 Tennessee
#7 Miss State
#8 Alabama
#9 Missouri
#10 Ole Miss
#11 S Carolina
#12 Florida
#13 Kentucky
#14 Vanderbilt

I also ranked the schools usin CBS' 2016-2018 NFL projection. HERE (Tennessee is ranked 3rd here)

You're wasting your time doing this here. No matter how you do it, someone will bitch about it not being fair. It seems some in here have a problem grasping what "so far" means.

I'm sure it is impossible to some that Tennessee is actually talented again.

Print the t-shirts. It's a done deal. Congrats on the Championship. Hope we can do better in '16.

Having the best QB in the division isn't twice as valuable as the 7th or 14 times as valuable as last place. I'd do it in a 100 scale and look at QBRs of the last three seasons of QBs averages for corresponding rankings vs pt totals to give you a better look. Meaning what did the best QB each of the last three seasons average in conference play? What about the second best? Etc etc. Should be a pretty interesting trend. If you could plot it vs games started that would also be valuable in determining a multiplier, IMO.

Everything other position is going to be marginal increments at the same idea. I'd cap them at 60pts and but the floor at 30. 1st place through 3rd place gets somewhere from 50-60 pts. Then 4th-9th 40-50 pts. And 10th-14th the rest. Bell curves being a concept I think we could show for each class, games started, etc.

Otherwise it really doesn't tell us much. The arbitrary scoring and weighting metrics aren't based in actual production.

I feel like you should double weight your legs, handcuff your arms behind your back and jump into a lake.
