I am weary of the government taking control of anything but I most certainly like the idea of what is happening.
Also, something people seem to be forgetting is that this will also keep ISPs from charging a la cart. With more and more people leaving cable and satellite this is a very good thing IMO.

I'm with the general proposal in spirit, but I want to know the gritty details.
One thing this doesn't address is future investment in infrastructure (aka fiber). I doubt it's cheap to lay down that much new cable and ROI likely takes awhile, but that's a project that serves the public good.
The how to reach that goal is the problem.

You mean government investment in infrastructure?

In my opinion this is just a way for the government to increase it's revenue base. It won't be long before they start taxing usage.
And as Reagan said: "The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

More inportantly, it will force internet companies to lobby Congress and the government even more.
Washington needs more lobbyist dollars.
