Stuff You Should Know

I've had this show recommended to me a few times.

Tried it out and was disappointed.

It's a surface level explanation of things, which seems like a good way to get the gist of a topic, but it was frustrating having so much important info omitted from topics that I was already familiar with, making it impossible to trust them on topics I'm don't know about.

I'll look at Hardcore History.

Just started Hardcore History. Badass. I would suggest the Khan series.

Stuff you should know isn't the kind of podcast that's going to get super in depth with topics (whereas hardcore history has 3and 4 hour shows spanning multiple episodes on topics). However it is a good way to get some quick info or an overview on a bunch of random topics. They have a really extensive catalogue of topics (whereas hardcore history is limited to what is provided via their feed unless you want to purchase old episodes)
