If you could clear it of its current residents and preserve it as an unpopulated wilderness area for outdoor recreation and agriculture, the place would be great.

Meh. There are plenty of good folks in Arkansas. So many of the people I worked with and befriended were just as smart, just as capable, just as cool as people from anywhere else. Arkansans tend to be defensive about the place because of Lil' Abner, Central High and so forth. I guess they do have an image problem, but the truth is the state and its people are just fine. I'd consider moving back there when I retire.
