Here's some interesting polling data from 2013 (before JFF bolted and TCU/Baylor got all the national media love):

quote:

-Texas A&M has caught up to Texas for having the largest fan base in the state. 22% identify themselves as Aggie fans to 20% for Texas, 10% for Houston, 8% for Baylor, 5% for Texas Tech, 4% for TCU, 3% for UTEP, and 2% for SMU. When we asked this same question in September of 2011 Texas led Texas A&M 23/15 but that was pre-Johnny Manziel/Kevin Sumlin era and that seems to have changed the balance of power in the state a little bit. There's a big partisan divide on school loyalties with Republicans preferring A&M 35/16, but Democrats going for the Longhorns 26/13 with A&M actually in third behind Houston.
-Voters in the state have mixed feelings about Johnny Football with 26% of them rating him favorably to 23% with an unfavorable opinion. 50% don't have an opinion either way. The previous year's in state Heisman recipient, Robert Griffin III, has a much better favorability rating at 36/11. Asked which of the two they like better, Texans pick RGIII by a 28/23 margin.

I'm honestly surprised that Baylor got 8%.

That is amazing considering how awful they were not so long ago.

According the NY Times, Aggy hasn't really caught up to the Horns at all:
