Spurrier built enough of a foundation for them to stay as a legitimate program
Thats my take. Reading some interesting articles about "Battling for South Carolina" involving USC and Clemson its seems that USC has turned the proverbial corner in state.
I would suspect that they would be a competitive program and not fall back into the darkness like they were prior to Holtz/Spurrier.
