Have subs ready to go at all times just like the offense does. Once a play is over, get them in and out as quick as possible just like the offense does.
This is stupid. If you played football you'd know that offense is proactive while defense is reactive. There are personnel matchups you play. The offense is calling the shots, so there's no possibly way for the defense to be able to recognize every change and expect to have everything ready to go at the same time as the offense. Couple that with the fact that the offense can sub freely while the defense can only sub when it's even possible and it's just not even close to a level playing field.

I did play football and that's how we dealt with it. We had a base defense we would get in every week whenever we were playing someone who ran the HUNH and we would stay in it. If adjustments needed to be made, we did it during timeouts, when the offense was on the field or at halftime.

The offense and defense can only sub between plays.
