I have been totally unable to straighten and stand on a leg before due to cramps. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, because I don't think I was ever a pussy. But that's the only reason!

Eh, if he was cramping that hard (and I believe he probably was) then that makes free throws pretty difficult. Good free throws when you're gassed are all about following through and pushing it through starting with your legs.
