LSU did not lose Chavis. If LSU really wanted him, a mere $400K or so would not have been a deal breaker. CLM's staff has consistently been one of the highest paid staffs in the SEC & in the country. There has been several posts in other threads that an issue has/had been simmering, in house, the past 2 + yrs over how much many long hrs some members of the coaching staff has been putting in recruiting, whereas a few others were just mailing it in in comparison. Chief has never been a recruiter & detested having to go on the road. So he didn't. FWIW.

quote:The way the NCAA recruiting rules are set up, you can't have all your coaches out on the road recruiting at any one time (essentially, two have to remain on campus at all times). You can rotate who is out on the road if you think it's important that everyone gets out there, but it's often more efficient to just keep your coordinators on campus--there are certain windows where you want your guys out on the road, so if you send coordinators out in a rotation with the rest, that means you're going to take other guys off the road just for the sake of sharing the load.
