Someone tried to break into my house last night. I need to buy a gun but, I don't know much about guns. I've been to the gun range and am a pretty good shot. I'm leaning towards a shot gun because my girl friend couldn't hit the side of a barn standing 3 feet away from it. I would like something that held more than two shells. My budget is about 600-700 bucks any tips would be great.

If just want home defense and will be keeping close by.. shotgun.. first 2 rounds should be 00 buck, then a slug.. then 2 more 00 buck.

Not fantastic but they're also not bad. They'll get the job done and simple to use.

Swedes are like a poor-man's version of Germans and Mossberg is Swedish-American so yea, they're decent.

Here ya go......

Great gun, under $500. Get buckshot rounds and anyone that tries to come in will wish they hadn't.

With a shotgun you really only have to get close

I recently bought the Mossberg Maverick 88 strictly for home protection. Great gun and great value at around $200.

Get proficient with a pistol. They're easier to keep next to the bed and easier to wield in a house. 9mm, .40, .45 ACP, .38 Special, .357 are all good.

Until then, Remington makes an 870 12 and 20 gauge with an 18" barrel that holds 7 rounds:

Yep.. Mossbergs are good, inexpensive shotguns to bang around.. Can get a good Remington for not too much as well..

Remington 870 Express Synthetic 12GA, 18 Inch, Fixed Cylinder... under $350 new

If you're getting strictly for home defense I'd buy a 20 gauge. The recoil from a 12 gauge will probably scare the shite out of your girlfriend. Both will kill a man dead in a hallway.

Pistol would be a good investment but they don't compare to a shotgun for home defense. Point and shoot with a shotgun. Pistol isn't as forgiving

For 700 bucks you can get a Glock and a shotgun. Home defense shotgun doesn't need to be fancy or expensive. You're slinging lead in close quarters. A 200 dollar shotgun will hit a guy in a hallway at the same rate a 700$ shotgun will.

remington 870, they also make a home defense version with a shorter barrel and higher capacity.

check local laws.

I'd trust my life to an 870.
