SEC to Tennessee: Do Not Schedule Baylor

A source inside the SEC informed BearsTruth a possible game between Tennessee and Baylor was nixed by the SEC. Tennessee needed to fill an opening in their schedule left by the closing of the UAB program. Baylor AD Ian McCaw and Tennessee AD Dave Hart were close to finalizing a home-and-home series between the Volunteers and Bears before the SEC stopped the series from occurring. Baylor's opening opponent for 2015, SMU, has been attempting to buy out of the game in Dallas. Baylor believed it had a worthy opponent in Tennessee before the series fell through. Baylor will continue to look for a home-and-home to boost the schedule with a tenth Power 5 opponent.

Is it common for the SEC to have a say in their schools OOC games?

Would of been a fun game.
Curious as to why the SEC would nix the game?

to prevent Baylor from getting a power 5 game and because Big 12 doesn't have title game

I brought up this idea but everyone said it was stupid and never would happen.
Not much to gain from Baylors perspective.

Looks like Slive is tiring of the Vols embarrassing the conference. Is Butch trying to make his SoS as difficult as possible to have another excuse on top of the "young roster" one? Eventually he's gonna have to show results beyond a 6-6 regular season.

Probably didn't want VOls to be Big 12 champs with Oklahoma on schedule as well

We desperately need a stronger non conference schedule. Tennessee was our only shot at next season with UAB. Looks like we won't be able to strengthen our OOC SOS until 2016.

You would of thought Baylor would of learned their lesson about poor OOC scheduling, after this past season.

Not surprised Tennessee is the SEC team Baylor tried to play. Baylor has a long history of playing cupcake games in their non conference schedule

The sec front office did not want the conference image to suffer.
A big 12 team serving an arse whoopin to Bitch Jones would hurt the conference image. And may hurt viewership or playoff chances for teams in the future.
Now if Baylor were to schedule LSU the front office would undoubtedly approve that matchup.

It is now that the conference changed the rules. If this is accurate at all, it likely got nixed because that would've put us playing two B12 teams (Baylor and OU in the same year). We already have a crazy SoS but that would make it insane.

Well our curret SOS was developed when we were praying for just 6 wins. Once the CFP was announced our AD said we wouldn't change our scheduling philosophy until after we saw the end results of how the committee judged and the importance they put on OOC schedule. Since then we haven't scheduled anyone, except for Tennessee.

Two of you said this. Are you two not familiar with the word "have"? I'm amazed at how many people think that's what that phrase is.
