because he was completely tone deaf as a play caller. He was a good qb coach, and he was ok at developing a gameplan, but if the game required him to deviate from that to win, he was lost. you could have filled a magic 8 ball with an equal number of run and pass plays and gotten the same effect as nuss calling a game

But he still managed to run very successful offenses...
