I had no problem with his playcalling in the 2013 IB. Our players just didn't execute, plain and simple.
Alabama was stuffed on 3rd and short a few times and tried running into stacked boxes. Auburn had the 13th ranked passing defense in the SEC. Take out the 99 yard underthrown touchdown pass, and McCarron is 16/28 for 178 yards, which is hardly satisfactory. Yes, part of that was execution. McCarron started the game off target and there were a few dropped passes such as Cooper's dropped touchdown in the end zone.
Personnel decisions are also a part of playcalling; a coach must select the player that is having a better day or is more suited to the goal. Kenyan Drake had a significantly higher rushing average than Yeldon, yet he only received 4 carries.
AJ McCarron got about 150 yards on three deep balls, 2 of which were underthrown and lead to turnovers on the following set of downs. The deep ball was the Texas A&M defense's weaknesses, but the team apparently didn't discover that until the 4th quarter when it had been exposed multiple times in previous games. Furthermore, Alabama was not running the ball effectively versus Texas A&M as they had done against most of their opponents. If the running game isn't working and the opponent's secondary is susceptible to the deep ball, then it makes sense to take a few more deep shots.

The Sugar Bowl was just a bad performance all around by our team. Nuss didn't turn the ball over like we did.
McCarron was responsible for the two interceptions, but that second half is all on the offense. The line struggled to block Oklahoma's pass rush, so why did Alabama elect to continue to try passing versus an undersized defense when the Alabama offensive line couldn't buy McCarron enough time? The defense held Oklahoma's offense to 7 points in the second half, but the team couldn't overcome a 14 point halftime deficit thanks to the offense.

Kiffin's visit in December of last year wasn't a talent evaluation. It was a job interview. Obviously that's common knowledge now. A few days after last years SEC Championship game I was told by someone who has good connections to UA that Nuss was encouraged to seek employment elsewhere and that Lane Kiffin would be hired as OC. A few weeks later Kiffin is hired. Rumor was Nuss and Saban never saw eye to eye and it's pretty well documented how complimentary Saban always has been of Kiffin as a play caller. To fire the man that called the offense that set school records does raise questions but it has worked out so far for Alabama. I think Florida fans will have the same frustrations Alabama fans had with is play calls.

If he is calling plays look
To score waay more than
Last year per game. I'd be
More worried about my
Defense

Mcelwain is the better OC of the two. Put Nuss at a school that isn't just better than the competition everywhere on the field and the results look like Michigan. As far as recruiting, I remember both of them as "ok". Nuss did seem popular with QB recruits.

Think I read he helped produce a 3k passer and Bama had 3k rushing yds in a season under him. When Groh comes as WR coach, I'm sure he will be average in all aspects as well.
Nussmeir ranks just above Major Applewhite as far as offensive coordinators go. Not really a big deal for UF though as McElwain will calling the shots. Groh is beloved @ UA. You won't hear a negative word from any real UA fan. Our players LOVED Groh. They had a hard time adapting to Napier's style after working with Mike because Napier is a Grade A HARDASS.

He was good at Washington too.

Not too worried about his OC duties
TAMU @ UA 2012 - 1st and goal from the 6 ... Nuss calls pass, pass, pass, pass.
I danced nekkid when he left for Michigan.

I have a friend who was very good friends with Nuss. Nice guy but he was totally intimidated by Saban. Comes across as an honest person and the recruits liked him.

Nuss was fired by Saban and sucked at Michigan. This is not a good hire.

Let's put it this way: you can probably count on one hand the number of Alabama fans that are concerned about Nuss going to UF.

I am calling him good.
And even that would be a generous statement. Nussmeir was one of the worst playcallers I've ever seen. Nuss was responsible for losing the 2012 A&M game. My wife has a better feel for the game. He might be ok with McElwein doing most of the work but Nuss was not a good OC.

Yeah Reel, I'm the one whose off not you the guy who told all of us Boom was the answer and that this year he'd turn it around.
You are absolutely correct to a point. It wasn't so much as Boom was the answer in and of himself, but the fact we had a r/s junior qb coming back from injury ands the defense was going to be stout...and I also was too optimistic about our WRs improving...which part of that failure was the revolving door around WR coaching...but I was wrong. Boom is snake bit, one incompleted pass in the end zone when the ball hit the TE square in his hands and a few more plays in the USC game when we did something we haven't done in four years...blocked punt and FG. We could be 8-3 and add in the Idaho mismatch and we would be 9-3...but we didn't and couldn't.
Now back to your theory about power running backs not common in Fla. Trent Richardson and Matt Jones would like to differ.

Dont like the Nuss hire for UF. I never liked him as an OC. Mainly because he had a propensity to bail on the run at the drop of a hat.

This is just getting sad. How many former Alabama assistants are going to Gainesville?

Sounds like he will work out perfect. I am about sick of running the fricking ball.

He can recruit, Sabán would not have hired him otherwise.
