After the Harbaugh discussion and a side discussion into Carroll it made me wonder how the two compared.
IN ADDITION, PETE CARROLL HAD 2 AP TITLES (1 BCS TITLE).
All 3 of Saban's unranked losses were in his first year. Every loss since then has been to a team that finished ranked.

I think Pete = Saban in GOATness

I'd take Carroll over Saban in a heartbeat.

Pete Carroll can actually win in the nfl
Saban is a sellout coach at a sellout bandwagon program
Sweet yall are the best at a sport that only 0.0003% of the world cares about.

Nick Harbaugh > Jim Carroll imo

You're comparing the Pac 10 to the current SEC for titles?

If you count the vacated wins from 2007, Nick Saban has 91 wins in 8 seasons.
Also...if you are going to throw in vacated wins for Saban, might as well throw in vacated wins for Carroll. Pete Carroll finished at USC with an "official" record of 83-19.

Carroll also left USC high and dry right before the sanctions. Must've been a giant coincidence.

I had no idea Carroll's record was that good.

I haven't read through the thread so I'm sure this has been brought up but two things: Pete cheated, Saban hasn't and Saban coaches in a much much tougher conference than Pete. Southern Cal was the Pac12, Alabama has to deal with Auburn, LSU, Florida, even Georgia, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and USC. The Pac12 didn't have a conference championship game.

Uh how accurate is this thing? Saban has 4 BCS titles. 1 at LSU and 3 at Alabama.

Pete Carroll was a beast in college. It took the ncaa to end his dynasty. I do think he had it easier to recruit at usc and to win on the west coast.

Neither invented their program... but Saban's work is more impressive considering the level competition.

Carroll is easily the answer if you look at the whole picture. If you pretend the NFL doesn't exist, maybe Saban by a nose.
