We just disagree then, give me SEC championships and Nat'l championships. Final fours are part of the process but its just something for loser programs(LSU) to hang their hat on.

Give me an AD/coach that wants titles, not fourth place finishes.

Izzo's reputation is built more on making multiple Final Fours than it is from his sole national title.

In your opinion, I disagree. He's won the beloved Big10 seven times and four more B10 tourneys, made the dance almost every year. Very consistent coach.

quote:

You can apply context to any team's run in the tournament and compare & contrast this program with that program; but more often than not, going to a Final Four is indicative of a strong program and great coaching. Rarely do teams back there way in and usually one trip to the Final Four is surrounded by other successful trips to the NCAAT.

yep

quote:

The other programs in the Top 10 of revenue have been at least once. Alabama hasn't.

-As I have already shown, Ath dept revenue has little correlation to Bball success. The fact that Bama is an outlier in a worthless stat proves nothing.
quote:

Our last SEC Tournament win was well over 20 years ago. If all you have to do is win 4 games at the right time, then why haven't we done it? What has stood in our way? We have the resources. Considering we're discussing Alabama's lack of commitment to basketball in terms of coaching, resources, arena, etc.

-Bama has sucked for a while, not due to lack of spending but due to poor and untimely decisions.

- Bama spends plenty of money on Bball.

- I don't believe Bama has shown a lack of commitment(in the past)

quote:

think the absence of a Final Four banner hanging in Coleman means something when one looks at Alabama Basketball from a macro level. UA constantly gets accused of being a football only school and it has never reached the Final Four. In my opinion, there's a correlation.

Bama is a football school, nothing will ever change that, not even a couple of Bball nat'l titles. You think a couple of FFs change that?
Duke and UNC will always be Bball schools, football success will not change that.

LSU with multiple FFs, does anyone think of them in any way other than a football/baseball school?
How have all those FFs boosted and advanced LSU bball?

quote:

If Bill Battle came out tomorrow and said "Our goal for the basketball program is to reach a Final Four in the next 15 years" and over the course of that time we reach an Elite Eight, 3 Sweet Sixteens, 6 trips to the 2nd round, 8 or so bids to the NCAA T, and an SEC championship or two, I think most people would be extremely satisfied. Yeah, we didn't reach a Final Four but our goal of taking our program to a championship/relevant level had been accomplished.

Right now fans will be happy with anything.

All I ever want are tourney appearances almost every year, SEC Title occasionally and a national title. Where we finish in the tourney is of no importance to me unless we finish first.

Are we going to start claiming FFs or final 2's in football

You're focusing way too much on my Final Four statement. We'll just agree to disagree but I believe that is an indicator of the long term struggle UA Basketball has had to try and get over the hump. In my opinion, we've gotten in our own way and the reason I bring up revenue is to prove that money isn't the issue. There's nothing stoping us if we truly wanted to throw the weight of the Alabama brand behind the basketball team.

Do I want to finish fourth every year? Not really but 4 straight Final Four trips would be a hell of a lot more fun than this mess and I'd take it in a heartbeat considering our lack of tradition in the post-season. I don't think anyone wants a lone Final Four trip preceded and/or followed by 20 years of mediocrity. We all want consistent relevance in March and I think that should be a pretty easy goal for a school that has the resources like Alabama has.
