I think the 4 team playoff worked. There are three clear cut top 3 teams: Alabama, FSU, and Oregon. Any of the three remaining teams would have been totally out of the old BCS system as the real controversy would have been if only two of the top three had to be picked for one BCS game.
At the end of the day I expect Ohio State to get the fourth spot because they won their league outright and won the championship game. TCU and Baylor are co-champs and did not win their league outright.
Only having ten teams and no championship game will be the death of the XII, much like the way the old SWC was marginalized.

It doesn't matter. Someone will always get pissed.
If you have an 8 team playoff, #9 is gonna be made.
If you have a 16 team playoff, #17....etc.
There are three dominant teams in the country right now. The rest of this is just smoke and mirrors to produce a fourth...to play victim to the other three.
I sincerely hope we get to see a Bama/Oregon game. That's the game of the year, imo.
