Wow that thing looks so much better than we I took a class and had graduation in the Maddox fieldhouse the last semester before it was renovated.

Looking good, eh?

Oh God yes.

I just wonder why they didn't but in a banked track? Do you know if there are actually plans to update the facade of the outside of the fieldhouse or was that just "inside sources" on the rant spewing bs?

Hopefully no track facility ever has to function that role again. My uncle who is an ER doc in Memphis came down and worked at the make shift hospital there. He would go work his weekly shifts in Memphis at his hospital and then catch about 2 hours sleep and get in his cessna and fly to BTR catch a ride to the fieldhouse work a few shifts, sleep at their condo in BR fly back to Memphis to work another shift and fly back. He wanted to go to the Superdome but his wife and bosses in Memphis wouldn't let him. He did that for about 2 weeks until his bosses in Memphis were getting pissed.

According to the Reveille one reason was so the facility could serve as a triage center as it did during Katrina.

I myself think the AD just said "good enough" and let it be. Remember it was supposed to get decorative treatment for the walls and ceiling also along with a banked track. Obviously, that didn't happen.

In an effort to continue the growth of LSU Athletics and rival top Southeastern Conference programs, the LSU Track & Field program is the beneficiary of an extensive renovation project to the Carl Maddox Field House that will benefit both the men’s and women’s squads.

Highlighting the updates is the addition of locker rooms for both the Tigers and Lady Tigers, featuring 52 lockers per team, so every student-athlete will receive his or her own locker. The complex will also feature a newly-built team meeting room equipped with multimedia capabilities

In Focus: Extreme Makeover

Maybe at some point in the future, LSU will re-visit this issue.
