I fail to see anywhere in that article that says anything about him being racist. If you are taking that from him being a ranking member of the sons of the confederacy then you would be completely wrong. That organization has absolutely nothing to do with racism in the slightest. Again, slavery was an afterthought in the civil war until Lincoln used it to win a war he was in grave danger of losing. History books are written by the winners of wars. The slavery issue being pushed by Lincoln at the end of the war is the REASON the north won, so of course the history books are going to paint the entire south as a bunch of racist bigots while acting like the north is full of saints.
There is as much or MORE racism in yankee land as there is ANYWHERE in the south. Period.

I know there are a lot of racists in Boston and Chicago. But nowhere in the country compares to Chalmette, Louisiana/St. Bernard Parish. When I was working a fema project down there, half the days, I would be start the day listening to a random old woman's racist rant.
My favorite quote (from a project manager with one of Louisiana's biggest contractors)? While a group of guys were talking about black people and wanting then gone, he said "I could live without lsu football."
