Not a good comparison as both are private schools. With no football, they'll be kicked out of C-USA and will struggle to find another league to join. With no league, the basketball program will flounder.

I don't really believe all the conspiracy theories that the UA BOT is out to get the UAB football program, but I do think there is some bad blood there with Bryant that goes back to Bartow. At some point though, the UAB football program has to move past that and prove they are self-sustaining. They've had 2 decades to do that and haven't. I hate to see it go, but won't lose any sleep over it.
