I think the only thing that he isn't really elite at is situational play calling. I know you'll probably disagree, which is fair, and to be honest I am not saying he is bad at it. I just think he is hit or miss when it comes to the pivotal play call. You have your over use of the bubble screen and then you have his 4th and 1 call where he motioned the the FB to both be on the right side and it was beautiful. Again, you can't expect someone to be much better than he is at that.

All this is true, but I think it's somewhat of an unfair criticism. No OC ever has been a perfect situational playcaller. You also have to take into account player execution. For example, Bobo was much criticized for the call late against USCe. I don't really agree with it either, but Bobo probably wasn't expecting Mason to brainfart and take a grounding call there. It wasn't a particularly high risk call, Mason just should have tossed it into the bleachers instead of the ground.

I can't think of an OC in college right now that's proven to be a better playcaller in those moments.

That's why I am fine with Bobo. You're rarely going to find a better OC. I just won't go around and say he is elite because there are mistakes. For calls like the USCe one it absolutely was loaded with variables that influenced the outcome but ultimately it falls on him. That's his job. You can argue it either way in that a) his player fricked up the execution but then b) Bobo should know his guy and what he is capable of.

I am not really arguing it either way here. I just am vain enough to write all of this out to exclaim how I am in the middle when it comes to Bobo. My biggest issue with him? He is a gigantic a-hole who teased the pistol and then put it away.
