The melt would be amazing in the future to see something like number one seed Bama and fourth seeded LSU get sent to Pasadena instead of NOLA because of this (though 1/9/12 didn't matter).

Neither team had home field advantage. It was about 55-45 LSU. I was in the stadium that night.

yeah they've said for a while that the 1 seed will play closest to their campus, and 2v3 will get the other venue.

I don't think that's what they meant, but I could be wrong.

Some fan bases travel much better than others. Does that mean that the top seeded school would get more tickets allocated to them? That doesn't seem fair.
