What are your thoughts on it...specifically on making school children recite it each day?

The more I think about it the more I can't help but feel that the practice is one of the least-American things ever. It seems like mindless indoctrination to me.

Just for fun, here's some pictures of Nazis and Nazi kids along with American kids:

I doubt anyone takes the pledge seriously (at least I hope not).

If our government became Nazi-esque and started imprisoning and killing masses of innocent people, would anyone say to themselves "well, I think this is 100% evil, but I guess I have to support this. I did take an oath of allegiance to our government afterall"?

This wasn't the case when I was in school. The Jehovahs just sat there.

Nice troll. The pledge is to our country, constitution, and what they stand for, not a particular person or party.

If the latter ever becomes nazi-like, we are implored by the foundations of our country to overthrow that government. That is what I pledge to whenever I say it.

I only cane the ones at work who won't stand up during it. Those little ungrateful heathens WILL NOT sit in their comfy little chair while we're saluting 'Merica.

We're not nearly as wildly nationalistic as we were up to the 1980s. I don't like the idea of pledging every day. Maybe at the beginning of the school year. I think it should be special, not something that's rote and mundane.
