The reason they don't do this is because everybody would schedule cupcakes for their all of their non-conference games. Would be very boring football outside of conference play.

who cares? you still have to win your conference.

this scenario would result in the rankings meaning very little and the conference championships meaning everything, which would make the regular season meaningful as well as the playoffs

If they made Big 5 conference winners a guaranteed entree??

It would be the exact opposite. You would have nothing to lose in OOC, so why not schedule USC and Ohio State?

I would actually think if teams know all they need to make the playoffs, is win your conference, they wouldn't be scared of an OOC loss, and might challenge themselves more OOC.
