If Mizzou accomplishes the impossible, wins SECCG, and keeps SEC out of playoffs

will that say more about SEC strength this year or the terrible playoff structure?
in my opinion, the playoffs should have been created with at least 6 teams to be fair. 8 would be ideal. Guaranteed spots for the 5 conference winners from the 5 major conferences, plus a wild card team chosen from the independents/mid majors. The conference championship games would actually be the first unofficial playoff games, which from that perspective the playoff could be viewed as a 10 - 12 team playoff.
if a team cannot win the conference, that team does not deserve to be in the playoff.
screw rankings. win your damn conference.

The reason they don't do this is because everybody would schedule cupcakes for their all of their non-conference games. Would be very boring football outside of conference play.

No offense but...
If Mizzo wins SEC championship and denies SEC a playoff spot then I would say the system worked exceptionally well.
If the best team from the West can't beat Mizzo (this years team) at the end of the season then there are better teams that are more deserving of a playoff spot.

Cue Bama fans in 3 ....2 .... 1.
But yes. It's harder to win the sec title than it is/was the playoff/bcs. You can't finish 2nd in the west and win the sec title.

The playoff structure is fine.
Mizzou isn't one of the best 4 teams in the country, even if they can win the SEC.

A friend and I were talking about this last week.
We came to the conclusion that the playoffs should consist of 8 teams.
5 conference winners
3 at large bids to keep top rated teams that shite the bed going into the last few weeks of the season from missing the Playoffs.

Which won't happen, because UF will be in Atlanta.

If they beat an undefeated State, the fighting Daks would still get in the 4.
