For fricks sake

quote:

The New York State Division of Human Rights (DHR) has ruled that the Roman Catholic owners of an Albany-area farm violated the civil rights of a lesbian couple when they declined to host the couple’s same-sex “marriage” ceremony in 2012. Robert and Cynthia Gifford, who own and operate Liberty Ridge Farm in Schaghticoke, were ordered by DHR Judge Migdalia Pares and Commissioner Helen Diane Foster to pay $10,000 in fines to the state and an additional $3,000 in damages to the lesbian couple, Jennie McCarthy and Melissa Erwin for “mental pain and suffering.”

Additionally, the Giffords must provide sensitivity training to their staff, and prominently display a poster highlighting state anti-discrimination laws.

quote:

The Giffords’ attorney, Jim Trainor, told LifeSiteNews that the two-year-legal drama and resulting fines all stemmed from a single brief phone call in 2012 that caught his clients off guard.

“The entire interaction between the Complainants and the Giffords transpired during a two to three minute telephone conversation which, unknown to Mrs. Gifford, was being tape recorded,” Trainor said.

Legal in NY to record a conversation as long as one participant in the conversation is aware it is being recorded.

quote:

“They consider the farm their home,” Trainor said. “They live there, they work there, they raise their kids there.”

This is truly unbelievable.

The laws dictating this are the same ones that would punish them if they refused to allow interracial couples to be married on their land.

That doesn't mean I agree with this, but people need to stop acting like this is some "gay agenda".

If you want to marry people and don't want to marry gays, don't work in a state that permits gay marriage.

Problem solved.

If it's anything like a similar situation I read awhile back, it becomes an issue when people begin creating a business of renting their barns for events and then they fall under the umbrella of the state's discrimination laws from a business perspective,

I don't necessarily agree with the premise of the law, but it's still a law at that point.

The state has anti-discriminatory laws. They were broken. Why do you want to force your religion on others? You don't believe in gay marriage, that's fine, but is it any of your business what they do? They opened a business renting out their farm. They refused to rent it to them because they didn't share their religious beliefs. What if this was a Hindu wedding? Would the homophobes here be just as up in arms that the local gas station clerk wanted to get married in the eyes of Vishnu, Shiva, and Devi on this farm but they wouldn't let them? Isn't worshiping false idols just as bad, if not worse, than two chicks cutting paper all night? I remember that one being important enough to be engraved on stone.

I mean you can't force anyone to do anything, but at the same time, anyone who does that kind of thing is just a dumbass

They should've just jacked the price up a bit, called them homos all weekend while they get married and got paid. Gay rights and freedom of speech exercised
