Didn't realize the old Southwestern conference was just a bunch of Texas schools and Arkansas.

that's how it was until the formation of the big 12 in 96

OU and OSU were charter members of the Southwest Conference but left very early on (and were replaced essentially with TCU and SMU).

LSU, Tulane, Ole Miss and Mississippi State were also originally at or invited to the initial meetings but those schools stayed in the SIAA.
