Heard this on the radio this morning. UAB has been trying to build an on campus stadium for year but University of Alabama Systems Board of Trustees have blocked their efforts.

I say good for them for taking control of their Athletic Department and pushing towards #freeUAB

These people knowingly and willingly blocked efforts to build an alternative to Legion Field?

UAB doesn't succeed because they are located in quite honestly the shittiest city in the southeast sans downtown Atlanta.

Sounds good to me, as long as the System isn't paying for it.

I don't see why they aren't teaming up with the city on the dome project. If UAB committed to anchor the dome it would have been built years ago it seems.

Don't know how this is possible unless the BOT approves.

Finally. Finally straw should have been when UAT prevented them from hiring Jimbo Fisher.

I have two degrees from UAB, and I have been an active non-supporter of an on-campus FOOTBALL stadium. Stupid idea, supported only by a very vocal minority of UAB fans. Maybe they have the money to throw away - good for them. I don't want be a part of it.

UAB should just dissolve their team or go down in division or something.

UAB wants to act independent until they need money. They will never get the cash to build an on campus stadium.

One of mine graduated from UAB and the other is there now. UAB draws chit for crowds. So unless some big time money people like Richard Schrushy step up to the plate I don't see it happening.

We will give them control over the Athletic Department but we get the Medical school back at UA. Fair trade.

Good for them. ULM needs one in the worse kind of way, not because LSU (not even in the same system) or ULL is blocking their progress but because the adminstration does not care about athletics.

Hasn't Alabama repeatedly paid coaches to go elsewhere instead of UAB or something?
