Nurse Kaci Hickox was/is quarantined in New Jersey after returning from Sierra Leone where she treated patients with Ebola.
When she arrived in Newark she was greeted by Immigration and Customs personnel who upon learning that she had traveled to the disease-ridden area tested her temperature and found she had a fever, they then placed her in quarantine. She has since tested negative on two preliminary tests for Ebola but that's not the point.
Here's what she's had to say about her **GASP** 21 day quarantine. 21 friggin days.
So what did this lady expect? To just drive home from the airport after spending time in Africa treating Ebola?
What a frickin idiot.
...and it's not prison, it's a hospital for three friggin weeks. Close your eyes and its over.
Leave the decisions up to health professionals? Oh like the doctor who paraded around NYC after contracting the disease?
frick that.
People that fly in from that part of the world should be quarantined, no matter what they tell ICE officials at the airport. Let's not play with this shite.
/end rant

quote:
"This is an extreme that is really unacceptable, and I feel like my basic human rights have been violated,"
quote:
"To put me through this emotional and physical stress is completely unacceptable,"
quote:
"To put me in prison," she said, "is just inhumane."
quote:
"I'm sorry, but that's just a completely unacceptable statement in my opinion. For (Christie) -- a politician who's trusted and respected -- to make a statement that's categorically not true is just unacceptable and appalling."
Hickox told Crowley that mandatory quarantine is "not a sound public health decision" and that public health officials -- not politicians -- should be making the policies related to Ebola and public safety.
"For the first 12 hours, I was in shock. Now I'm angry," she added.

I generally don't call women counts, but this one is a dumb count.

Suck it up, buttercup.
You helped others when they were in need and bully for you. Now cool your jets for a bit because you need to be vetted, medically.

Her feelings got hurt. This is just like the Japanese internment camps.

I think it's noble to go help those less fortunate. I also think the 21 day quarantine should take place before you get on a plane to the US.

Well that's awfully selfish of her.

She can go live in the Ebola "hot zone" in frickin Africa but being quarantined in the US is too harsh? Pretty sure her accommodations would be considered a palace in the shite hole she just came from. And if you choose to go and work in a "contagious environmen" then you have to realize that you will be subject to certain protocol when you return. Dont like it? then stay your arse home & take care of the millions of people in your own country who are suffering.

Good for her for helping those in need. But she needs to get over her shite. If I came into contact at work with a kid who was diagnosed with Ebola I think I'd actually request to be quarantined if for no other reason then to protect those close to me.

I think the mandatory quarantine is stupid because people aren't contagious until they're displaying symptoms.
And even then you've got to swap body fluids to transmit the disease.
But let's not have facts get in the way of a nice media frenzy that politicians can exploit

She's tested negative for Ebola twice. She's never shown any signs of fever. All this does is contribute to the irrational hysteria over this virus and deter other medical professionals from going to Africa to help stop it.
This reminds me of the Ryan White kid back when AIDS was gonna kill us all. frickin people are stupid.
