As a former club athlete I think this is bullshite and a horrible PR move by UA officials. Money makes the world go round I guess and the tuition these kids pay just isn't enough.

That is bullshite. The school has no problem slapping their logo on some tacky, God awful merchandise, but they forbid students from using it when actually representing the school.
UA can't get out of it's own way sometimes.

frick this university. Making bad decision after bad decision.

I guess that is why the hockey team has been trying to sell their old merchandise, saying they are going to have a new logo. It's a shame. They had some awesome jerseys.

I guess this is what happens when the AD is the founder of The Collegiate Licensing Company. I guess he wasn't getting his cut.

I'm a former club sport athlete too and hate this decision as well. On the one hand, they say they won't allow use of trademarked logos like the script A because they don't want club sports being confused with varsity sports. I'm actually ok with that. But then they say that club sports will all have to become uniform: only allowed to use official UA colors, only allowed to use official (i.e. generic) UA club sports logo, etc... I say if the women's ultimate frisbee team wants to wear neon green shirts, then let them. If clubs want to keep using their old logos instead of the generic one, then let them. Club sports are different from varsity sports. They're less mainstream, less corporate, more independent. They've created unique identities in some cases over decades. That shouldn't be stamped out because of some non-existent threat to the Athletic Department's image.

Again, UA won't let tuition paying students representing the school use our logo but will slap a logo on this crap:
Kind of falls in line with the the mentality there. We'll let rednecks camp out and storm the field for autographs (making the school look terrible in the process) but suddenly we want to protect our image when students want to represent the university in a good way.

Many of the items with the logo on it are just plain embarrassing and contribute to the idea that UA fans are a bunch of toothless rednecks.

Especially considering UA doesn't hold any TM over houndstooth, yet is forbidding the club teams from using it.
Like someone said in the comments section of that article, what is the difference between the club teams and organizations like the Million Dollar Band or the Science Club using the logo? None.

That's a crap decision. They need to get a lot of blowback for that decision. It should be embarrassing to them that they are punishing students for supporting the school through club sports.
eta - It'd be cool if a huge portion of the stadium crowd showed up in Frozen Tide hockey jerseys or clothing of other club sports, rather than officially licensed clothing, to get the point across at the next home game.

The new rule is you must win SIX national championships before you are houndstooth worthy
