You're still a kid at the age of 19. You might be a legal adult but you aren't even old enough to drink and, in some instances, shave.

You're also old enough to vote and serve in the military and you're certainly old enough to understand the consequences and how incredibly stupid it is to do something like this. I just don't like people calling him a "kid" as if it's some sort of excuse or should invoke some sort of sympathy for him.

Yup. Not to mention the fact that you're still a few years away from your brain developing the executive functions (e.g. decision making abilities, and impulse controls) that adults have. An adult 'brain' where we have maturity in those aspects is right around 25 years old which is why college kids act like kids a lot of the time despite being mature in other ways.
