I'll be attending that game! Thuper Ecthited!!!

Questions:

1) Where are the best places to tailgate?

2) Are there really nice hotels close to the stadium? If so, suggestions?

3) Which bars/entertainment districts do you recommend? Please don't fool us with gay bars...however, those can be fun from time-to-time.

You definitely want to go to Calhouns on the river. Great barbeque and great hospitality. This is by far my favorite road trip.

A lot of good hotels to choose from near Market Square and the Old City downtown Knox.
If you want a bar scene that is where you should go. It's about a 15 minute walk to the stadium, and what I usually do on game day.

Don't go to the Strip (Cumberland Ave) and expect much. Only place worth going to is Copper Cellar or Gus' Good Time Deli right off the Strip, but both places are usually incredibly crowded.

If I were you, I'd go to Calhouns by the river. Plenty of visiting fans mingle in that area and a chance to check out the Vol Navy

4 points is the closest. It's in fort sanders, most densely populated square mile in TN.

Downtown has your standard mid to small sized city hotels. Marriott, Hilton, Crown Plaza. There are few smaller boutique style hotels if that's your thing.

The Hampton inn and suites is a cheaper alternative, just a short drive away, with shuttles to and from campus running all day. Edit: on Pratt Rd

Cedar Bluff is a good area to look in if downtown and campus are booked

Like Jed said, there's tons of bars around downtown. Market Square and Gay street offer a lot of good watering holes and different grub options. The strip on campus is 100% UT students. The old city is a mix of bars/clubs and food joints as well. Market Square and The Old city are only about a 5 minute walk apart, so they're fun to do in conjunction. Lots of options and that's only the downtown districts.

Preservation Pub and Scruffy city in Market Square and Sutrees high gravity bar on Gay St. Are all clutch. There's a few breweries in town too if you're in to the craft scene. As far as lodging goes, stay at the Oliver. Thank me later

Tailgate off of Neyland Drive or off the strip. Bars/restaurants on the strip, the Old City and Market Square. It's all in like a 3 mile radius so you can hit it all if you want

How old are you? Traveling with wife/friends/kids?

Generally, if you're young and want to party with other college kids go to the strip. Otherwise stay downtown and drink there or the old city.
