I've spent the week visiting family in Arkansas...

And it is simply amazing how much they are talking about Saturday's game. Every time I turn on the radio, every local TV show, listening to conversations at the tire shop I had to spend some time at...it's all A&M all the time. It feels like a major bowl game for them. It's a little weird.
I'd say 60% of them honest-to-God believe that they are going to win the game.
I've spent time here during the season in prior years, too (years when they were good, even), and I've never seen this level of anticipation for any previous game. They usually talk about some other stuff, too - not JUST the game coming up on Saturday. But not this week. It's all they can talk about.

What else did you expect them to talk about this week?
Its a national tv game.

I know a bunch of A&M dudes from when I lived in Houston and about 60% of them are queer.

This isn't the Big 12, we take football seriously in the SEC.
Football > Everything Else

So... a state with no pro sports team and no other games going on is talking about the game this Saturday...

of course, the hogs rule here. i live in russellville where atu is- still hog stuff on signs, in businesses- it's everywhere. the same exact thing in conway where uca is located. don't feel special any week of the season, the news, etc is going to be about the hogs regardless of opponent- we're not texas with 10 or so teams with a huge following.

Welcome to the SEC. We talk about football. You aren't special.

Great thread -- would commission a pilot to reproduce in skywriting.

I know you want to feel special but it's really simple. The hogs have been pure dogshit the last couple of years. This year besides the 2nd half at Auburn the hogs have shown improvement. Fans are starting to feel optimistic about the team again instead of chalking every game up as an automatic loss. This game provides us an opportunity to see how much we have improved by playing against a team ranked in the top 10, whose strength is our weakness that just happens to be an old SWC rival, and the game is at Jerryworld. Make no mistake though, hog fans are talking about this game because of their excitement for the Razorbacks not because of Texas A&M.

I wanted to post some comment like, "Sorry yall lost your Super Bowl," but I can't bring myself to do it.
The Hogs played inspired ball. You guys have a great team, and I'll be rooting for you the rest of the year. Great game, Hogs.

National televised game, played in Jerry World - that is what made it feel like a 'bowl game', not the fact that it was against aTm (no disrespect, but playing aTm is a normal again yearly thing.)
The anticipation was also heightened by knowing that we had a legitimate chance to get back on the winning track in SEC play, regardless of the opponent.
So, yes, the game was big to us, but aTm just happened to be the opponent, not what made it something like a 'bowl game'.
